AlUla, February 19, 2024, Design Space AlUla, situated at the heart of AlJadidah Arts District, has emerged as a hub for diverse design endeavors, aligning with AlUla's commitment to nurturing the flourishing arts and culture landscape in the Kingdom, catering to students, design professionals, and enthusiasts.
Launched on February 15, the gallery is housed in a contemporary structure surrounding an illuminated courtyard. Designed by the Italian studio Gio Forma, the building draws inspiration from the ancient, textured brick constructions typical of the AlJadidah neighborhood, constructed with Corten steel, glass, and polished concrete.
Under the guidance of Design Space AlUla's curator, Eng. Sara Ghani, the gallery endeavors to connect with local and international design experts and emerging designers through a series of exhibitions and workshops. The space facilitates the display of diverse design disciplines, including architecture, urban planning, production, and graphic design.
The inaugural exhibition, "Mawrid: Celebrating Inspired Design," runs until June 1 and sets the tone for a series of forthcoming exhibitions. The exhibition delves into the visual identity of Design Space AlUla, designed by Clara Sancho Studio and 29Letters design studio, drawing inspiration from AlUla's distinctive architecture.
An exhibition crafted by the German architectural firm Atelier Brückner takes visitors on a sensory journey through designs inspired by AlUla, presenting a captivating spatial narrative featuring various designers' works. Additionally, the second edition of AlUla Design Award finalists is showcased in the exhibition.
Eng. Sara Ghani emphasizes that Design Space AlUla is a celebration of AlUla's natural history and cultural heritage, fostering a sustainable future deeply rooted in the region. The ambition is to support the design sector, providing resources for exploration and experimentation. Design Space AlUla aims to become a space where visitors can investigate, explore, and engage with the stages of AlUla's design journey.
