DGDA and HERFA Association signed an MoU to preserve Diriyah’s cultural heritage and empower local artisans.

On October 8, 2024, in Diriyah, the Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA) and the HERFA Association formalized a partnership by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) focused on preserving the cultural heritage of Diriyah and supporting local artisans. The agreement aims to empower Saudi artisans by providing them with essential resources, training, and market access to promote their craft and enhance the cultural vibrancy of Diriyah.

The MoU was signed by Eng. Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Adviser to the CEO of DGDA, and Rawan Ibrahim Al-Flieo, CEO of the HERFA Association. Both parties agreed to collaborate on several key initiatives designed to promote traditional craftsmanship and integrate artisan products into the public and cultural activities within Diriyah. These initiatives include utilizing the skills and expertise of local artisans to beautify important locations across Diriyah, incorporating handcrafted goods into various Diriyah events, and implementing training programs aimed at enhancing artisans' skills.

Additionally, the agreement includes the exchange of expertise and studies to foster a greater understanding of Saudi craftsmanship. The partnership will also focus on community engagement initiatives to create a deeper connection between artisans and the residents of Diriyah, further enriching the region’s cultural identity.

This MoU represents a significant step toward preserving Saudi Arabia’s traditional crafts, which are integral to the country’s cultural and national identity. By recognizing the invaluable contributions of local artisans, the DGDA and HERFA Association aim to keep these traditional practices alive, providing both economic and cultural benefits. Their combined efforts will ensure that the craft heritage of Diriyah continues to thrive and contribute to the Kingdom’s broader cultural landscape.
