Diriyah, January 21, 2024, Diriyah Company proudly announced the successful completion of the infrastructure for the new Diriyah Tunnel, situated at Exit 38 on the Western Ring Road. The tunnel serves as a vital link connecting Riyadh City to the historic Diriyah district. The announcement was made during a ceremony held within the tunnel, attended by distinguished guests, including the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Bassami, Director of Public Security, Eng. Ahmed Al-Balowi, Deputy of Riyadh Region's Municipality for Operations and Maintenance, and Jerry Inzerillo, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Diriyah Company.
Commencing two years ago, Diriyah Company undertook the extensive infrastructure work for the tunnel, featuring eight lanes spanning 435 meters each. The project, totaling over 7 million work hours, has the capacity to accommodate more than 10,280 vehicles per hour. Advanced technologies were employed in collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, the Ministry of Interior, and the Riyadh Municipality, as highlighted in a press release from the company.
The completion of the tunnel project is expected to significantly ease access to Diriyah's historic and tourist destinations, such as the At-Turaif Historic Site, Bab Samhan Luxury Diriyah Hotel, and Bujairi Terrace. Beyond enhancing accessibility, the tunnel is poised to improve traffic flow, simplifying navigation for both residents and visitors.
An exciting addition to the tunnel project is the inclusion of one of the largest parks in the Kingdom, stretching from the Historic Diriyah through King Salman Boulevard and culminating at King Saud University. This expansive park aims to offer a distinctive and immersive experience, seamlessly blending the past and present for all visitors.
Jerry Inzerillo, GCEO of Diriyah Company, reiterated the commitment to elevating Diriyah's infrastructure and enhancing surrounding service facilities to welcome visitors and tourists, both domestic and international. The overarching objective is to position Diriyah prominently on the global stage as a historical and cultural center, solidifying its status as a premier tourist destination worldwide.
