Riyadh, April 28, 2024, Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Social Development for Labor, Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Abu Thanin, is leading the Saudi delegation at the 50th session of the Arab Labor Conference, taking place from April 27 to May 4 in Baghdad. The conference brings together labor ministers, representatives from employers' organizations and labor unions in 21 Arab countries, officials from the Secretariat General of the League of Arab States, and various Arab and international organizations.
The opening session of the conference witnessed the presence of notable figures such as Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and International Labor Organization (ILO) Director-General Gilbert Houngbo.
During the plenary session, Dr. Abu Thanin emphasized the crucial importance of early qualification and training programs tailored to meet the evolving needs of the labor market. These programs aim to enhance technical, personal, and social skills while adapting to modern work patterns.
He highlighted the Kingdom's significant investment in developing human resources through Vision 2030 programs, labor market strategies, and various initiatives. Dr. Abu Thanin also mentioned the ministry's initiative in organizing the Global Labor Market Conference (GLMC) in collaboration with the ILO and the World Bank. This conference brought together a group of international experts and specialists to devise plans for addressing future changes in the labor market.
The conference agenda includes discussions on various issues and reports, including the arrangement and coordination of Arab participation in the forthcoming International Labor Conference organized by the ILO, scheduled to be held in Geneva.
Established in 1965, the Arab Labor Organization (ALO) operates as one of the organizations within the League of Arab States. It holds significance as the first specialized Arab organization dedicated to labor and workers' affairs at the level of the Arab world.
