Geneva, Dec 14, 2023, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), highlighted Saudi Arabia's significant contributions to refugee assistance during his participation in the Global Refugee Forum 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Dr. Al-Rabeeah stated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has provided nearly $18.6 billion for the benefit of refugees within its borders. He emphasized the Kingdom's commitment to the humanitarian cause, collaborating with the international community to address conflicts and crises and extend support to affected communities globally.
During the forum, Dr. Al-Rabeeah underscored Saudi Arabia's role in alleviating the suffering of refugees and host countries, providing essential aid for a decent life. He highlighted that the Kingdom has hosted 1.07 million refugees, constituting 5.5% of the total Saudi population. These refugees receive free healthcare and education opportunities, and the Kingdom is committed to their integration into society.
In the face of current crises leading to an increase in the numbers of refugees and displaced persons, Dr. Al-Rabeeah outlined the Kingdom's ongoing efforts through KSrelief, allocating $170 million for various humanitarian projects. This includes $40 million for displaced persons in Gaza, and an additional $10 million contribution to the Global Islamic Fund for Refugees.
Looking ahead, Dr. Al-Rabeeah stated that approximately 7% of humanitarian projects over the next two years will be dedicated to supporting refugees and displaced persons. He emphasized the importance of uniting efforts, creating partnerships, and implementing innovative initiatives to address the challenges faced by refugees, contribute to a better environment, and enhance humanitarian stability. This collective approach aims to reduce inhumane violations that have worsened the conditions of refugees worldwide.
