Riyadh, September 17, 2023, Governor of the Communications, Space, and Technology Commission (CST), Dr. Mohammed Saud Al-Tamimi, attended the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development annual meeting, which was held in New York during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, on behalf of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The meeting's objectives are to increase the sector's contribution to the achievement of sustainable development goals in communications, space, and technology, to suggest strategies and proposals for closing the digital divide, and to advance and expand the digital economy. High-level representatives from various governments and industries from around the world attended the summit, where they discussed a number of crucial topics, including the role of investment and finance in closing the digital divide and bringing together the world's 2.6 billion offline citizens. They also talked about problems and restrictions in the online world.
Paul Kagame, the president of Rwanda, and Carlos Slim, a businessman, are co-chairs of the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development. The secretary-general of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the assistant director-general for communication and information at UNESCO are co-chairs of the vice-chairs. Senior officials from governments and the private sector from around the world, as well as a number of decision-makers with influence in the communication and technology fields, are also members of the commission.
