Tunis, October 3, 2024 – The 8th Arab Conference for Directors of Nationality and Civil Affairs Status Departments convened at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab Interior Ministers Council (AIMC) in Tunis, bringing together representatives from various Arab interior ministries. This important event, held on Wednesday, included participants from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Arab League, and the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS), highlighting the collaborative effort to enhance governance in civil affairs.
Leading the Saudi delegation was Lt. Gen. Suleiman bin Abdulaziz Al-Yahya, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Civil Affairs. In his address during the opening session, AIMC Secretary-General Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Koman underscored the pivotal role that nationality and civil affairs status departments play as essential state institutions. He emphasized their critical importance in national security, given their responsibility for issuing identification documents that are vital for both individual rights and the prevention of criminal activities.
Dr. Koman highlighted the necessity for these departments to operate with the highest standards of quality, precision, and accuracy. This is particularly crucial in safeguarding against the risks of document forgery, which can lead to serious illicit activities and compromise national security. His remarks set the tone for a conference focused on best practices, innovation, and cooperation among member states.
Throughout the conference, participants reviewed and shared their respective experiences in managing operations within their nationality and civil affairs departments. This collaborative approach aims to address common challenges and foster improvements in service delivery, efficiency, and security across the region. By exchanging insights and strategies, the conference seeks to enhance the capacity of these vital institutions to serve their populations effectively.
The discussions and outcomes of the conference are expected to contribute significantly to the development of robust frameworks that will strengthen national security and enhance the overall integrity of civil affairs processes throughout the Arab world. As countries navigate the complexities of modern governance, such conferences play a crucial role in promoting cooperation and ensuring that the interests of citizens are protected.
