Brussels, September 11, 2023, The economic corridor project, which connects India, the Middle East, and Europe and was launched during the G20 summit in New Delhi last Saturday, has been emphasized by the European Union (EU). In response to a question from the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) in Brussels, Paolo Gentiloni, the European Commissioner for Economic Affairs, said that the project stands as a significant strategic effort and symbolizes a strong connection between the Indo-Pacific and the Middle East. In addition, he underscored the significance of the announcement in New Delhi, stressing as a significant development the involvement of Saudi Arabia, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and numerous EU member states. Furthermore, Ana Pisonero, a representative for the European Neighborhood Policy, stated that the economic corridor represents a significant shift and is intimately related to significant investments and an ambitious infrastructure plan. She mentioned that, together with Saudi Arabia, the US, India, and other participating countries, the Commission sees itself as one of the project's supporters.
Pisonero also noted that extensive preparations are being made to create the plan. This extensive project calls for the building of multiple ports and railways in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as a significant rise in investments in the energy industry, including the manufacturing and delivery of green hydrogen. The initiative also intends to improve digital data transmission capacities and the communication sector.
