Brussels, January 27, 2024, The European Union (EU) has underscored its endorsement of the recent interim ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding South Africa's legal action against Israel concerning the alleged genocide of the Palestinian people.
In a joint statement, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and the European Commission emphasized that all involved parties are expected to adhere to the ICJ rulings and commit to their full, immediate, and effective implementation.
The statement further clarified that the decision on South Africa's request for the indication of provisional measures does not impact the right of each party to present arguments related to jurisdiction, admissibility, or merits. The EU's position reflects its commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring a fair and impartial legal process in addressing the complex issues surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
