Al Ittihad FC of Saudi Arabia will play Auckland City FC of New Zealand in the opening game, as announced during the draw. The victor of this match will next face Egypt's Al Ahly SC, the continent's champion. The second round will include a match between the Asian champion Urawa Reds of Japan and the Mexican Club Leon.
Manchester City FC will play the yet-to-be-decided Copa Libertadores champions in the semifinals. In their respective semifinal contests, they will take on the victors of the second-round contests.
