Riyadh, December 23, 2024 – In a high-level meeting in Riyadh today, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, the Minister of Interior of Saudi Arabia, held official talks with Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior of Kuwait. The discussions underscored the deep and enduring partnership between the two Gulf nations, particularly in the realm of security cooperation, which remains a central pillar of their bilateral relationship.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud emphasized that the meeting was aligned with the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia. These directives are aimed at further strengthening the ties between the two countries and enhancing collaborative efforts in various security domains. The Minister also highlighted the importance of deepening the relationship between the Kingdom and Kuwait, especially in the context of the shared security challenges facing the region.

The focus of today’s talks centered on expanding security cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, with a particular emphasis on combating transnational crime, including the increasing problem of drug smuggling. Both sides agreed on the urgency of addressing this growing issue, which has serious implications for the safety and well-being of both nations. The two officials discussed collaborative strategies to enhance intelligence sharing, tighten border security, and improve law enforcement coordination, all critical components in the fight against the illegal drug trade.

In addition to the topic of drug smuggling, the meeting also touched upon other areas of mutual concern, such as regional security stability, counterterrorism efforts, and the need for continued cooperation in safeguarding the Gulf’s maritime borders. Both Prince Abdulaziz and Sheikh Fahad reiterated the commitment of their respective governments to maintaining peace and security in the region and ensuring that both countries continue to play active roles in combating threats to regional and global stability.

The discussions also reflected the broader context of the strategic partnership between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, both of which share not only geographical proximity but also common interests in promoting security and prosperity in the Arabian Gulf. As part of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), both countries have a long history of collaboration, and today's talks reinforced the importance of strengthening that bond in the face of emerging security challenges.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to mutual support and cooperation. Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud expressed his gratitude for the strong ties between the two countries and the ongoing collaboration in areas of security, defense, and regional stability. Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah also reiterated Kuwait’s commitment to working closely with Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the shared values of security and peace that bind their nations.

This meeting marks another milestone in the close and strategic relationship between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, reflecting the broader Gulf effort to address contemporary security threats through enhanced cooperation and coordination. As both countries look ahead, they remain steadfast in their determination to continue working together to ensure a safer, more secure future for their citizens and the broader region.
