GACA Approves Cathay Pacific Flights Between Riyadh and Hong Kong

Riyadh, October 10, 2024 – The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has officially announced that Cathay Pacific Airways will begin offering regular passenger flights between Hong Kong and Riyadh, starting from October 28, 2024. The service will operate three times a week during the winter season, providing a new direct link between the two cities. This move is part of the ongoing efforts to enhance air connectivity between Saudi Arabia and key international destinations.

The introduction of these flights marks a significant milestone in GACA's broader strategy to expand Saudi Arabia's global aviation network. By approving Cathay Pacific's new route, GACA continues to strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a major player in international air travel. This development aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, the ambitious national plan aimed at diversifying the economy and reducing reliance on oil revenues. A key component of this vision is to transform Saudi Arabia into a leading global logistics hub, and the expansion of air travel routes plays a critical role in achieving this goal.

Cathay Pacific's new service between Hong Kong and Riyadh is expected to foster greater business, tourism, and cultural exchanges between Saudi Arabia and East Asia. The availability of more direct flights will enhance travel opportunities for both business travelers and tourists, making it easier to connect with global markets and further integrating the Kingdom into the world economy. Additionally, the increased air traffic is anticipated to have a positive impact on Saudi Arabia's tourism sector, which is undergoing rapid growth as the country continues to attract more international visitors.

GACA's approval of this route is not only a step toward expanding travel options but also a reflection of the Kingdom’s commitment to modernizing its infrastructure and offering world-class aviation services. As part of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, the authority aims to increase passenger capacity and improve the overall travel experience. These efforts are key to opening new horizons for the Kingdom, creating more opportunities for international collaboration and economic growth.

Cathay Pacific's decision to launch this route also underscores the growing importance of Saudi Arabia as a key destination in the global aviation market. With the Kingdom's airports and aviation facilities being upgraded to meet international standards, the country is poised to become a regional hub for air transport, connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa. The winter service between Hong Kong and Riyadh is expected to be well-received by both business and leisure travelers, further solidifying Saudi Arabia's role as a central player in the global aviation landscape.
