Riyadh, December 06, 2023, In a significant development during the 15th International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Air Services Negotiation Event (ICAN2023) in Riyadh, the President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Duailj, inaugurated the Regional Safety Oversight Organization for the Middle East and North Africa regions.
The event, hosted by GACA from December 3 to 7, witnessed the participation of 100 countries and international organizations, along with 700 experts and specialists in civil aviation. The newly established Regional Safety Oversight Organization is poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing aviation safety standards across its member states.
The primary objective of the organization is to develop and implement a comprehensive national training and safety program, with a focus on elevating aviation safety standards. The member states of the organization include the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Sudan, the Federal Republic of Somalia, the State of Palestine, the State of Libya, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and the Republic of Yemen.
During the inauguration ceremony, President Al-Duailj delivered a speech, emphasizing the historic significance of the organization's establishment. He highlighted that it represents a milestone for all member states, serving as a testament to their collective commitment to the safety, quality, and efficiency of aviation with the ultimate goal of achieving the highest air safety standards.
Expressing gratitude, President Al-Duailj acknowledged the wise leadership of the Kingdom and its pioneering role in supporting efforts to develop and enhance efficiency in the civil aviation sector regionally and globally. He underscored the alignment of these efforts with the 2030 Vision, demonstrating the Kingdom's commitment to fostering advancements in aviation safety on a global scale.
