GASGI and NEOM ink MoU in Riyadh for geospatial collaboration

Riyadh, October 26, 2023, In Riyadh, the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GASGI) and NEOM officially signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today. This MoU is centered around the geospatial sector and its associated infrastructure, including geodesy, marine surveying, aerial surveying, remote sensing, and geospatial data. The agreement encompasses the exchange of experiences in areas like supervision, management, organization, licensing, qualification, as well as the sharing and exchange of geospatial data and information. The primary objective of this collaboration is to find technical and technological solutions that support the management of smart cities.


GASGI's Chairman, Eng. Mohammed Yahya Al-Sayel, and NEOM's CEO, Eng. Nadhmi Al-Nasr, were the signatories of this memorandum. Their joint efforts are geared towards achieving strategic goals that encompass enhancing work practices, fostering interoperability, and integrating digital systems that leverage the national geospatial platform. The collaboration also entails developing regulations, standards, and methodologies for geospatial work, specifically tailored to meet the supervisory needs in NEOM. Additionally, both entities will explore opportunities for investment, business development, and innovation in the geospatial sector.


The MoU outlines several key provisions, including the utilization of services and products from the national network of continuous monitoring stations (KSA-CORS), the use of the National Spatial Reference (SANSRS) in all surveying activities within NEOM, and GASGI's commitment to providing support for geodetic work in NEOM, including the use or transition to this reference system.
