Riyadh, February 5, 2025 — Dr. Mansour Al-Shammari, Secretary-General of the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (Etidal), welcomed a distinguished delegation of public prosecutors and representatives from prosecution bodies across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to Riyadh today. The delegation’s visit was part of an ongoing effort to strengthen regional collaboration in the fight against extremist ideologies and enhance the collective response to challenges posed by radicalization.
During the meeting, Dr. Al-Shammari provided the delegation with an in-depth briefing on Etidal’s extensive efforts to combat extremist thought, focusing on the center’s multifaceted strategies to counteract and mitigate the harmful effects of extremist content, particularly in the digital space. He outlined the comprehensive approach employed by Etidal, which includes monitoring and addressing online radicalization, promoting awareness, and working closely with key stakeholders to combat the spread of violent ideologies.
In addition to its digital initiatives, Dr. Al-Shammari highlighted Etidal’s strategic partnerships with governments, regional and international organizations, and civil society groups. These partnerships are integral to Etidal’s mission of promoting peace, tolerance, and understanding within the region and beyond. The delegation was also briefed on the center’s community-based initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of moderation and social cohesion, with a focus on educating younger generations and providing them with the tools to critically engage with extremist content.
