Riyadh, December 30, 2024, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, held today a telephone call with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Lebanon Abdallah Bou Habib.
During the conversation, the Secretary-General informed the Lebanese Foreign Minister about the contents of the final statement of the 46th Extraordinary Meeting of the GCC Ministerial Council, which included the GCC's support for Lebanon during this critical phase and the Council's renewed commitment to standing by the Lebanese people and supporting them in achieving security, stability, and development.
According to a press release issued today by the GCC Secretariat General, Secretary-General Albudaiwi said the statement underscored the GCC's consistent stance on supporting Lebanon's sovereignty, security, stability, and territorial integrity and the importance of implementing comprehensive political and economic structural reforms to help Lebanon overcome its political and economic crisis.
Furthermore, during the call, Albudaiwi mentioned that the statement also emphasised the necessity of implementing the United Nations Security Council resolutions concerning Lebanon, especially Resolution 1701 and the Taif Agreement, to restore lasting security and stability in Lebanon, ensure the respect of its territorial integrity, political independence and sovereignty within its internationally recognised borders, and to extend the control of the Lebanese government over all Lebanese territory. The statement also highlighted the importance of continuing regional and international coordination and consultation on regional and international issues to enhance security and stability in the region.
