GCC Secretary General and Singapore Minister keen on strategic relations

Perth, February 09, 2024, Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore, have reiterated the shared commitment of the GCC and Singapore to fortify their strategic relationship, with a particular focus on bolstering economic, trade, and investment ties.

This affirmation emerged during a meeting between the GCC Secretary-General and the Singaporean Foreign Affairs Minister held today in Perth, Australia, on the sidelines of the 7th Indian Ocean Conference.

The discussions centered on ongoing efforts to modernize the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) initially signed between the GCC and the Republic of Singapore in 2008. The aim is to enhance the framework to better serve the mutual economic and trade interests of both parties.

Furthermore, they exchanged perspectives on various issues of significance within the international and regional spheres, underscoring the depth and breadth of their engagement beyond economic matters.
