New York, September 19, 2023, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Al-Budaiwi, has called for international solidarity in the face of injustice meted out to the Palestinian people. On the occasion of International Day of Peace, which this year is being celebrated with the subject "Peace Day Efforts: A Renewed Effort for Peace in the Middle East," the leader of the GCC spoke outside of the meetings of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York City. Al-Budaiwi argued that the Palestinian people's hopes for a better future and peace should unite all people everywhere.
In this regard, Al-Budaiwi wanted to thank the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Arab League, the European Union (EU), the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for their crucial collaboration.
Al-Budaiwi stressed that the GCC has consistently supported the Palestinian people in their quest for peace over the years.
According to Al-Budaiwi, the GCC has worked closely with the US, the EU, and other countries to support a fair, all-encompassing, and long-lasting peace in the area based on the principles established by UN resolutions.
The significance of the UN Security Council's resolutions on the Palestinian cause was stressed.
Meanwhile, Al-Budaiwi criticized Israeli actions that try to alter the demographic make-up and legal standing of occupied Palestinian territory.
He demanded that future Israeli governments actually work toward peace with the Palestinians by doing things like having honest political discourse.
He also stressed the importance of not taking actions like continuing to build additional illegal settlements and rejecting international demands for engagement in peace talks, which would only serve to further aggravate the conflict and irritate the Palestinian people.
