Riyadh, December 14, 2024 – Jasem Mohammed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has strongly condemned the recent massacre in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the tragic loss of dozens of lives and left many others wounded. In a statement, Albudaiwi described the attack as a horrific crime, one among many violent actions perpetrated by Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people. This attack, which targeted a densely populated civilian area, has escalated the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and further exacerbated the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Albudaiwi called for the international community to take urgent and decisive action to address the situation, stressing that the massacre represents a blatant violation of international law and humanitarian principles. He urged the global community to hold the perpetrators accountable and to ensure that such crimes are not repeated. His call emphasized the need for enforcement of international laws and treaties designed to protect civilians in conflict zones, urging immediate measures to prevent further bloodshed and safeguard the rights of the Palestinian population.
In addition to condemning the violence, Albudaiwi expressed support for the recent resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. Among these, he welcomed the resolution calling for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, highlighting its significance in halting the ongoing violence and preventing further loss of life. Another key resolution supported by the GCC Secretary-General was one aimed at facilitating the delivery of much-needed humanitarian aid to besieged civilians in Gaza, ensuring that essential supplies can reach the affected population amidst the ongoing blockade.
Furthermore, Albudaiwi applauded the UN General Assembly's resolution reaffirming support for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). This resolution calls for the continuation of vital services provided by UNRWA to Palestinian refugees, including education, health care, and emergency relief. By endorsing this resolution, the GCC reinforced its commitment to supporting Palestinian refugees and ensuring that they receive the assistance and protection they desperately need during these turbulent times.
The GCC's condemnation of the Nuseirat camp massacre and its support for the UN resolutions underscore the organization's ongoing advocacy for peace, justice, and the protection of Palestinian rights. As the conflict in Gaza continues to escalate, Albudaiwi’s statements reflect the GCC’s determination to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and to press for immediate international intervention to stop the violence and alleviate the suffering of innocent civilians.
