Riyadh, February 18, 2024, The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, engaged in discussions today with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference held in the Federal Republic of Germany.
The meeting encompassed a wide-ranging dialogue on topics of mutual interest, with a focus on strategies to fortify collaboration across various sectors. Both leaders underscored the historical alliance between the GCC and the European Union, reflecting on the achievements outlined during the 27th Joint Ministerial Council meeting held in Muscat in October 2023.
A key aspect of the conversation revolved around the pivotal role of unified international efforts in tackling the significant challenges and repercussions stemming from various conflicts and crises, both on the global and regional stages. Of particular concern was the dire situation in Gaza, with a profound emphasis placed on the devastating impact it has had on the lives of innocent Palestinian civilians. Urgency was underscored in advocating for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the expeditious delivery of humanitarian aid and relief to the affected Palestinian populace in the region.
