Riyadh, November 14, 2023, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), held a significant meeting at the Secretariat General headquarters in Riyadh with Mamadou Sow, the regional delegation chief of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
During the meeting, Sow presented a detailed account to the GCC secretary general, outlining the severe violations committed by the Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip. Backed by statistics and narratives, the presentation shed light on the Israeli brutality inflicted upon the defenseless Palestinian population in the enclave.
In response, the GCC secretary general assured Sow of the pivotal role that the ICRC plays in addressing the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza caused by these grave Israeli violations. The focus was on urgently providing relief and humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the people in Gaza.
Referring to the ministerial statement issued during the 43rd special session of the Ministerial Council, the GCC secretary general emphasized the council's commitment to activating an immediate humanitarian relief operation. This operation aims to assist the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip, with an announcement of $100 million in immediate support for humanitarian and relief aid.
Furthermore, the secretary general underscored the council's insistence on the urgent and efficient delivery of this aid to Gaza through competent authorities and organizations, including the ICRC.
