GCC Secretary General Welcomes Statement Issued by Madrid Meeting on Two-State Solution

GCC's Position: He reaffirmed the GCC's commitment to Palestinian sovereignty over territories occupied since 1967, the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the return of refugees in line with international resolutions.
Support for Two-State Solution: Jassim Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the GCC, endorsed the statement from the Madrid meeting which supports the implementation of the two-state solution and highlighted the involvement of multiple international and regional representatives.

Riyadh, September 14, 2024 – Jassim Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has expressed strong support for the recent statement issued by the joint meeting on the implementation of the two-state solution. This statement was presented at a gathering in Madrid, Spain, which saw participation from representatives of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Türkiye, Spain, Ireland, Norway, Slovenia, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).



Albudaiwi commended the Joint Ministerial Contact Group from the League of Arab States and the OIC for their significant contributions. He highlighted the statement from the 161st ministerial session, which underscored the critical role of the ministerial committee led by Saudi Arabia. This committee was formed during an extraordinary Arab and Islamic summit with the goal of stopping Israeli aggression against Palestinians, rallying global support for Palestine's broader recognition, and aiding its quest for full UN membership. The committee also aims to convene an international peace conference.



Albudaiwi reaffirmed the GCC's steadfast position in supporting the sovereignty of the Palestinian people over all territories occupied since June 1967. He reiterated the GCC's commitment to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and the return of refugees, in line with the Arab Peace Initiative and international legitimacy resolutions.
