GCC Secretary General welcomes Sudan talks resumption in Jeddah

Riyadh, October 27, 2023, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi has extended a warm welcome to the resumption of talks in Jeddah, involving representatives of Sudan's Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary.

Albudaiwi commended the concerted efforts made by both the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America to facilitate discussions among all parties, thereby overcoming the obstacles and challenges that had previously hindered the resumption of these talks.

Furthermore, he expressed his appreciation for the willingness of the conflicting parties in Sudan to engage in these renewed discussions, with the participation of the African Union (AU) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

The GCC chief emphasized that this response from the conflicting parties reflects their strong commitment to Sudan's sovereignty and the preservation of its unity and territorial integrity.

He expressed optimism that the talks will contribute to the attainment of a comprehensive, enduring, and peaceful resolution that upholds Sudan's sovereignty and fulfills the Sudanese people's aspirations for security, peace, political stability, and development.
