GDNC foils amphetamine smuggling attempt with ZATCA collaboration in Jeddah

Jeddah, March 02, 2024, According to Major Marwan Al-Hazmi, the official spokesperson for the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC), a collaborative effort between security forces and the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a staggering quantity of amphetamine tablets, totaling 1,298,886, concealed within a shipment of electric ovens at Jeddah Islamic Port.

Following the operation, authorities apprehended the intended recipients of the illicit shipment in Riyadh and Jeddah Governorate. The individuals, identified as a Sudanese national and a Saudi citizen, have undergone initial legal procedures and have since been referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.

The security authorities are urging both citizens and residents to remain vigilant and report any information pertaining to drug smuggling or distribution to the General Directorate of Narcotics Control.
