GEOSA Participates in 7th High-Level Forum on Geospatial Information in Mexico

The UN approved the establishment of the Global Center for the Incubator Environment for Geospatial Information in Riyadh, marking a major milestone for the Kingdom in global geospatial management.
GEOSA participated in the 7th High-Level Forum on Global Geospatial Information Management, chaired by Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh, October 12, 2024 – The General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information (GEOSA) actively participated in the 7th High-Level Forum on Global Geospatial Information Management, hosted by the United Nations in Mexico from October 8 to 10. This international event, chaired by Saudi Arabia, provided a platform for leading experts to discuss advancements in geospatial information management and highlight the importance of this field in driving national and global development.


Saudi Arabia’s Dr. Mohammed bin Yahya Al-Sayel, Chair of the Arab Committee of United Nations Experts on Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), delivered a key presentation outlining the Arab Committee’s significant initiatives and achievements. His summary highlighted the accomplishments of the regional working groups under the committee, emphasizing their active collaboration with UN-GGIM working groups on various global geospatial initiatives.


In addition to his presentation, Al-Sayel chaired a pivotal session titled "The Future of the Incubator Environment for Geospatial Information," during which he discussed the transformative role of geospatial information in advancing national development goals. He noted how geospatial technologies are instrumental in enhancing public services and supporting the strategic objectives of countries. Al-Sayel underscored Saudi Arabia's leadership in this domain, particularly through the launch of the geospatial information incubator project under GEOSA. This innovative initiative has set a global benchmark, serving as an example of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to fostering cutting-edge geospatial solutions.


A major highlight of the forum was the unanimous decision by the United Nations to establish and host the Global Center for the Incubator Environment for Geospatial Information in Riyadh. This decision marks a significant achievement for Saudi Arabia, as the center will serve as a hub for global geospatial management, reinforcing the Kingdom’s role in the international geospatial landscape.


GEOSA will continue to work closely with international partners to advance the geospatial sector in Saudi Arabia, ensuring that services are continually improved and performance is enhanced. The authority remains dedicated to leveraging geospatial information to support national development, improve service delivery, and contribute to global geospatial initiatives.
