Makkah, February 05, 2024, The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque is actively engaged in remarkable efforts to ensure a reliable and uninterrupted supply of electricity to the Grand Mosque in Makkah. This dedicated endeavor is crucial to facilitating the performance of rituals by visitors and Umrah performers.
A network of twelve main substations plays a pivotal role in supplying the Grand Mosque with substantial amounts of electricity every month. This electricity is essential for operating over 250,000 electrical and mechanical pieces of equipment, and electronic devices, as well as supporting services like cooling and cleaning. Additionally, the system manages more than 120,000 lighting units, with many of them illuminating the Grand Mosque, its courtyards, roof, and minarets around the clock.
The intricate coordination of these units is orchestrated by a specialized control center at the Grand Mosque, employing the latest technologies to ensure efficient and seamless operations. Regular maintenance checks are conducted by dedicated teams, meticulously evaluating the efficiency of every lighting point. Weekly tests are also carried out to guarantee the safety and readiness of all power lines and generators, with particular emphasis placed on preparations for Ramadan and Hajj season.
In order to mitigate the impact of power outages and ensure a continuous supply of electricity to the Grand Mosque, uninterruptible power supply units (UPS) are strategically deployed throughout the premises. These UPS units play a vital role in maintaining a consistent power supply, further enhancing the reliability and stability of the electrical systems supporting the Grand Mosque.
