Riyadh, October 05, 2023, The "Green Riyadh" program has initiated the greening of Al-Nakheel neighborhood, marking the seventh residential area in Riyadh to undergo this transformation. The greening project in Al-Nakheel commenced on October 5th and will encompass the planting of 50,000 trees and shrubs. This effort involves the creation of 17 neighborhood parks, four schools, 30 mosques, 14 parking areas, and the enhancement of 52 kilometers of streets and corridors.
In conjunction with these greening endeavors, an exhibition and awareness events have been organized to inform residents about the infrastructure improvements underway in their neighborhood. The exhibition, taking place in Al-Nakheel neighborhood from October 5th to 14th, provides insights into the project's stages, duration, and the future vision and designs of the neighborhood after its completion.
The "Green Riyadh" program, one of Riyadh's four megaprojects, was initiated under the direction of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and as an initiative of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The program's overarching goals include planting more than 7.5 million trees, increasing Riyadh's green coverage to 9.1%, boosting the per capita share of green spaces from 1.7 m2 to 28 m2, and enhancing the city's urban environment through residential neighborhood greening. This initiative aligns with the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative and Saudi Vision 2030, which includes planting 10 billion trees within the Kingdom in the coming decades.
