Heritage Commission announces significant discovery in Jurash archaeological site

Abha, February 13, 2024, The Heritage Commission has unveiled its most significant breakthrough yet in the archaeological enclave of Jurash, nestled within the Asir region. This momentous discovery comes as a culmination of rigorous excavations conducted during the 15th season in 2023, propelling the "Jurash Archaeological Site" to the forefront of the Kingdom's southern archaeological landscape.

According to reports released today, the scientific team overseeing the site unearthed a series of newly revealed architectural residential units characterized by walls constructed from a blend of stones and clay. These structures represent a seamless continuation of previously unearthed remnants, particularly on the northern periphery of the site.

In addition to these architectural marvels, the Heritage Commission has also brought to light a groundbreaking irrigation mechanism. This innovative technology comprises a well meticulously crafted using stacked stones, intricately connected to water channels flanked by two rows of stones. These channels facilitate the distribution of water to the residential units, while subsidiary channels branch out into adjacent water basins. Furthermore, the excavation efforts uncovered stoves and terraces fashioned from stones and clay.

Among the wealth of artifacts unearthed, a plethora of stone tools designed for daily use have been cataloged, alongside a captivating array of finely crafted stone beads, offering a glimpse into the ancient inhabitants' intricate craftsmanship and daily lives.
