Riyadh, March 04, 2024, The Heritage Commission has achieved international recognition by winning the esteemed "iF Design Award," a prestigious accolade in the realm of design and creative spaces, bestowed by IF Design & Jury Awards in Berlin.
The commission secured the "Design for Cultural Exhibitions" award for its Saudi International Handicrafts Week Exhibition "Banan," which took place in Riyadh last June. The exhibition underwent evaluation by a panel of 132 prominent international experts in design, leading to its selection for the prestigious honor.
This award is based on five key criteria: concept, design, uniqueness, success in meeting objectives, and functional capabilities. The "Banan" exhibition stood out for its innovative designs inspired by the cultural heritage of handicrafts in Saudi Arabia. It showcased exceptional quality in display, distinguished use of colors, and celebrated the beauty of heritage pieces.
Supervised by the Handicrafts Sector within the Heritage Commission, the Saudi Banan Exhibition gained significant attention and participation. Under the patronage of Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Heritage Commission, the exhibition witnessed a remarkable turnout and engagement from artisans, enthusiasts, and international visitors.
The "iF Design Award" holds a distinguished legacy, originating in Germany in 1954. Its symbol, "iF," signifies the quality and reliability of designs for both users and the design community. Design experts from around the world participate in this award, rigorously evaluating designs against high standards.
This recent achievement adds to the Banan Exhibition's accolades, having previously won the Paris Design Award "Better Future | Paris Design Awards" in January. The Heritage Commission's commitment to showcasing Saudi Arabia's rich cultural heritage through innovative and high-quality exhibitions continues to garner international acclaim and appreciation.
