On June 6, 2024, in Brasilia. During the third G20 Health Working Group conference, which took place in Salvador, Brazil, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia gave presentations on its Global Innovation Hub and Global Patient Safety Leaders Group projects. Saudi Arabia launched both of these initiatives during its tenure as the current G20 president. The special session, named "Saudi Arabia's G20 Presidency," aimed to monitor Saudi Arabia's progress in securing the G20 presidency. The session's primary focus was on discussions about these measures with member nations, invitees, and international organizations.


According to Rakan bin Khalid bin Duhish, Assistant Undersecretary for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Health, the Saudi healthcare system is currently undergoing a massive change as part of the Saudi Vision 2030 initiative to improve healthcare services. Additionally, he mentioned the establishment of the Global Innovation Hub and the first-ever inclusion of patient safety on the G20 agenda in 2020, during Saudi Arabia's group presidency. This highlights the significance of global cooperation and the commitment to improving patient safety.


Furthermore, he expressed his appreciation for the contributions that Dr. Reem Bunyan and her team have made to the G20 since 2020. These contributions include their ongoing collaboration with global experts, universities, and governments in order to facilitate the transition to high-value healthcare systems. In the meantime, Dr. Ali bin Tala Asery, the director-general of the Saudi Patient Safety Centre, emphasized the importance of continuing to prioritize patient safety as a key agenda item in the G20 in order to improve global health outcomes and ensure the safety and quality of healthcare, thereby making it safer and more secure for patients.
