Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – The Riyadh 2023 World Combat Games organizing committee has proudly revealed its innovative choice to set a new benchmark for diversity within international sporting competitions. Six Paralympic sports will be included in the competition for the first time in the event's history, establishing Saudi Arabia as a trailblazing host country. This forward-thinking choice is the latest in the Kingdom's string of ground-breaking achievements, which also includes its distinction as the first Middle Eastern nation to host the prestigious World Combat Games. The Riyadh 2023 World Combat Games, which are set to take place from October 20 to October 30, have already started, with Paralympians with physical, mental, and visual impairments qualifying to compete in their respective divisions of Aikido, Muaythai, Armwrestling, Ju-Jitsu, Sambo, and Savate. The World Combat Games this year will feature more than 1,700 elite combat athletes from more than 80 nations, which has generated considerable interest within the martial arts community. Aikido, Armwrestling, Boxing, Fencing, Judo, Ju-Jitsu, Karate, Kendo, Kickboxing, Muaythai, Sambo, Savate, Sumo, Taekwondo, Wrestling, and Wushu are among the 16 combat sports that will be featured.
The choice to include paralympic sports was an easy one, and it is consistent with Saudi Vision 2030 goals to encourage a wide variety of athletic involvement and boost sports participation. This significant inclusion demonstrates the Kingdom's dedication to ensuring equitable opportunities for athletes while enabling them to realize their full potential and produce outstanding outcomes. The Kingdom's decision to accept Paralympic competitors illustrates its ongoing commitment to equality and establishes its presence at international sporting events. The Kingdom has implemented numerous national projects that offer life-changing support to people with disabilities. This choice delivers a strong message of empowerment and hope as Saudi Arabia continues to get ready to host the international community at the Riyadh 2023 World Combat Games. The Kingdom is laying the foundation for a better, more inclusive future for everyone by embracing diversity. The competition is expected to be a huge celebration of athleticism, teamwork, and the human spirit.
