Historic launch: UIM E1 World Championship begins in Jeddah tomorrow

Jeddah, February 1, 2024, In a historic moment for the Kingdom, the inaugural event of the UIM E1 World Championship, the world's pioneering all-electric race-boat championship, is set to unfold tomorrow in Jeddah. The Ministry of Sports, in collaboration with the Saudi Water Sports and Diving Federation and under the supervision of the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), is orchestrating the tournament's first round, promising two days of thrilling competition along the shores of the Red Sea.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal, the Minister of Sports and Chairman of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, underscored the significance of hosting international sporting events, highlighting the steadfast support from the Saudi leadership. Prince Abdulaziz expressed his pleasure in inaugurating the opening round of the World Championship for Electric Speedboats (E1) amidst the scenic beaches of Jeddah.

Prince Sultan bin Fahd bin Salman, Chairman of the board of directors of the Saudi Water Sports and Diving Federation, conveyed his excitement in welcoming the world's preeminent stars to Jeddah for the UIM E1 World Championship. Emphasizing the global scale of the tournament, he mentioned its seven-round structure, with the current round featuring eight teams. Prince Sultan expressed satisfaction in the participation of a Saudi team, illustrating the strategic partnership forged with the Aoki Racing team. This collaboration stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia's dedication to fostering excellence in the emerging realm of electric boat racing.
