Imam of the Prophet's Mosque Visits Nahdlatul 'Ulama in Jakarta


Jakarta, October 11, 2024 — In a significant diplomatic and religious engagement, Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Al-Huthaifi, a prominent imam and preacher, visited Nahdlatul 'Ulama in Jakarta, Indonesia, today. This organization, recognized as the largest Islamic group globally, boasts over 120 million members across various regions in Indonesia and is highly regarded for its strong ties with the Indonesian government.


During his visit, Sheikh Dr. Al-Huthaifi met with the organization’s chairman, Yahya Cholil Staquf. The meeting was further enriched by the presence of Faisal bin Abdullah Amoudi, the Saudi ambassador to Indonesia, and the embassy’s religious attaché, Ahmad al-Hazmi. Together, they engaged in discussions centered around the organization’s notable achievements, initiatives, and programs that have been implemented over the past few years. This dialogue not only highlighted the impact of Nahdlatul 'Ulama within Indonesian society but also its role in fostering unity and understanding among Muslims.


Sheikh Dr. Al-Huthaifi took the opportunity to commend the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its unwavering commitment to serving Islam and the Muslim community worldwide, particularly in Indonesia. He emphasized that this visit is a testament to the Saudi leadership’s genuine interest in the welfare of Muslims globally. In his remarks, he urged attendees to uphold the principles of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet, advocating for moderation, balance, and the rejection of extremism and fanaticism.


This visit is part of the broader “Visits of the Imams of the Two Holy Mosques” program, which is overseen by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance. The program aims to strengthen ties with Muslim communities around the world through the engagement of imams and religious leaders, fostering interfaith dialogue and promoting Islamic values of peace and coexistence.
