Rafha, December 10, 2023, The Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve Development Authority has launched several initiatives aligned with the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative. CEO Mohammed Alshaalan highlighted the success of protection and afforestation projects, contributing to a substantial increase in vegetation cover from 1.5% to 6.5% within a span of five years.
In a significant move towards sustainability, Alshaalan shared that a drone project implemented last year increased employee efficiency by 220% while concurrently reducing emissions by 66%. This achievement was made possible by replacing traditional transportation methods with drones capable of covering 400 square kilometers in just 4 hours.
According to a report from the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), the concerted efforts of the royal reserves, including the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve, have led to a significant decrease in the number of sandstorms in the region compared to the previous year. The report attributes this positive change to initiatives focused on increasing vegetation cover, reducing soil movement, and addressing overgrazing.
These initiatives underscore the commitment of the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve Development Authority to contribute actively to the Saudi Green Initiative, fostering environmental sustainability and mitigating the impact of climate challenges in the region.
