Abidjan, March 1, 2025 – In a significant move to combat terrorism financing and money laundering in West Africa, the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) launched a comprehensive training program today in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. The initiative, titled “Countering Terrorism Financing and Money Laundering,” is designed to strengthen the capacity of relevant institutions in the region to tackle one of the most pressing security threats facing global peace and stability.
The launch ceremony, held in the Ivorian capital, was attended by key figures, including the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire’s Minister of Digital Transition and Digitalization, Ibrahim Kalil Konaté, and IMCTC Secretary-General Maj. Gen. Mohammed Al-Moghedi. Their presence underscored the strategic importance of the initiative, as well as the strong partnership between the IMCTC and Côte d'Ivoire in the global fight against terrorism financing and financial crimes.
This training program marks a pioneering effort in Abidjan, as it is the first of its kind in the region, addressing the growing concerns around illicit financial flows that support terrorist organizations. The initiative is part of a broader strategy by the IMCTC to empower countries across the African continent with the knowledge, tools, and expertise needed to disrupt the financial networks that fund terrorism and other criminal activities.
The program will offer a series of intensive courses and hands-on workshops, facilitated by international experts in the field of counterterrorism finance and anti-money laundering efforts. These sessions will cover a wide range of topics, including the latest techniques for detecting and preventing money laundering and terrorism financing, as well as an in-depth review of international laws and regulations related to these issues. Participants will gain valuable insights into the legal, regulatory, and operational frameworks needed to combat these threats at both the national and international levels.
The launch of this program in Abidjan highlights the IMCTC's ongoing commitment to supporting member countries in their efforts to strengthen their defense mechanisms against terrorism. By providing practical, real-world training and knowledge-sharing opportunities, the IMCTC aims to ensure that local institutions are well-equipped to address the complex challenges posed by terrorism financing and money laundering.
The program is expected to have a lasting impact on the region, helping to build more resilient financial systems that are resistant to exploitation by terrorist groups. It also demonstrates Côte d'Ivoire’s commitment to being at the forefront of efforts to combat the financing of terrorism in West Africa and beyond.
As the global fight against terrorism financing intensifies, initiatives like the one launched today in Abidjan play a crucial role in bridging the gaps in knowledge and capacity needed to address these evolving threats. Through cooperation and shared expertise, the international community continues to make strides toward dismantling the financial infrastructures that sustain terrorism, contributing to greater security and stability across the globe.
