On January 10, 2025, in Al Mahrah, Yemen, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) officially launched the second phase of a vital project aimed at strengthening the educational framework in the region, particularly in literacy and support for individuals with disabilities. This initiative seeks to address critical local capacity-building needs, with a special focus on enhancing the abilities of educators and institutions involved in literacy education and the rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities.
As part of this expansive effort, the project will train 32 teachers in literacy schools and an additional 63 educators specializing in teaching students with disabilities. Through targeted courses, the program will improve teaching methodologies and strengthen the professional skills of these educators. Literacy instructors will receive advanced training to better meet the needs of their students, while instructors focused on disability education will undergo behavioral modification and developmental training to provide more effective and inclusive learning environments.
The project also aims to reinforce institutional capacities at various educational centers and government schools dedicated to the rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities. These institutions, spanning across key governorates such as Aden, Lahj, Al-Dhale, Shabwah, Hadhramaut, and Al Mahrah, will benefit from enhanced staff skills and more robust infrastructure. In total, the initiative is expected to positively impact approximately 8,975 individuals, offering improved educational opportunities to those who face significant barriers to learning.
This initiative is aligned with Saudi Arabia's ongoing commitment through KSrelief to tackle the challenges faced by Yemen’s educational institutions, especially in areas deeply affected by conflict and underdevelopment. The second phase of this project is not only focused on improving the quality of education but also on facilitating the integration of children with disabilities and literacy students into society. By enhancing the educational system, KSrelief hopes to empower these students to contribute meaningfully to their communities and, ultimately, to the rebuilding and development of Yemen.
