N'Djamena, January 09, 2025 – The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has officially launched a vital project aimed at providing safe drinking water to communities in the Republic of Chad. The project, which was inaugurated on Monday, is expected to significantly improve the living conditions of thousands of people in the country, where access to clean and reliable water remains a critical issue.
The inauguration ceremony, held in N'Djamena, was attended by the Saudi Deputy Ambassador to Chad, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Salem, who highlighted the importance of this project as part of Saudi Arabia’s broader humanitarian initiatives in Africa. Al-Salem expressed the Kingdom's commitment to continuing its support for the people of Chad, underscoring the Kingdom's long-standing efforts to alleviate the suffering of communities affected by water scarcity, particularly in underserved rural and remote regions.
The project involves the drilling of 26 artesian wells, with a total of 115 wells planned to be completed or currently under construction across various parts of Chad. These wells are expected to benefit approximately 158,000 individuals, providing them with a sustainable and accessible source of safe drinking water. The new water sources are expected to help alleviate the pressing water shortages that have long plagued many rural and semi-urban areas in Chad, contributing to better health and quality of life for local populations.
In addition to the drilling of the artesian wells, the project includes a range of infrastructure developments to ensure the efficient extraction, distribution, and delivery of clean water. The activities will involve the installation of water pumps, pipelines, and the construction of concrete facilities designed to secure the water infrastructure. To ensure sustainability, solar energy systems will be integrated into the project, providing a renewable power source to operate the water pumps, which is crucial for communities that often face unreliable electricity access.
The integration of solar technology into the water infrastructure reflects KSrelief's commitment to sustainable development and innovation in humanitarian projects. Solar-powered water systems are particularly suited to remote areas like those in Chad, where the availability of electricity is often limited. These solar-powered systems will ensure that the pumps continue to operate reliably, even in areas with no connection to the national power grid, helping to provide consistent access to clean water.
This initiative is part of KSrelief's ongoing mission to provide life-saving humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations worldwide, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals to promote sustainable development and strengthen its role as a global leader in humanitarian aid. Access to clean water is one of the most fundamental needs for human health, and this project is poised to make a profound impact on the lives of Chadians by reducing the risk of waterborne diseases and promoting overall well-being.
By investing in water infrastructure and ensuring that the wells are equipped with sustainable energy solutions, KSrelief is not only addressing the immediate water needs of the affected populations but also contributing to the long-term development of Chad. The project also serves as an example of the Kingdom's strategic commitment to supporting African nations in their efforts to achieve sustainable development goals.
The successful completion of this project will further strengthen the bonds of cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Chad and will demonstrate the tangible benefits of international humanitarian collaboration in addressing the global water crisis. Through these ongoing efforts, KSrelief continues to play a key role in helping to mitigate the challenges posed by water scarcity and improve the living conditions of vulnerable communities around the world.
