Damascus, January 25, 2025 – In a significant diplomatic meeting, Ahmad al-Sharaa, the leader of the new Syrian administration, welcomed Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah to Damascus today. During the meeting, Prince Faisal conveyed to al-Sharaa and the people of Syria the greetings and well-wishes of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, along with those of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This exchange of greetings set the tone for a positive and forward-looking discussion between the two leaders.

In response, al-Sharaa extended his greetings to the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, acknowledging the deep and longstanding ties between the two nations. This cordial exchange underscored the shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and fostering cooperation in the region.

The discussions between the two leaders centered on the critical issue of supporting Syria’s security, stability, and unity in the face of ongoing challenges. The situation in Syria has been dire for years, with the country grappling with the aftermath of civil conflict, economic instability, and the devastation of national infrastructure. Both leaders agreed on the importance of providing comprehensive support to Syria as it seeks to rebuild and recover from these difficult circumstances.

Prince Faisal and al-Sharaa explored various avenues to bolster Syria’s political, humanitarian, and economic conditions, particularly in light of the sanctions that have been imposed on the country. They emphasized the need for concerted international efforts to lift these sanctions, recognizing that they have had a significant impact on Syria’s ability to recover and move forward. The two sides highlighted the importance of working together to create an environment conducive to the restoration of Syria’s national institutions, which are critical for the country’s long-term peace and stability.

The meeting also focused on the importance of humanitarian aid and support during this critical period for Syria. Prince Faisal and al-Sharaa agreed that providing assistance in various forms, including medical aid, food, and essential services, would be crucial in alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people. This aid would serve as a foundation upon which Syria can begin its process of recovery, allowing the government to rebuild vital infrastructure and restore social services that are essential for the daily lives of citizens.

At the core of the meeting was a shared desire to help Syria regain its strength and sovereignty, and to ensure that the country’s political institutions function effectively in line with the aspirations of the Syrian people. Both leaders emphasized the importance of unity, peace, and stability as the cornerstones of Syria’s future. Prince Faisal reiterated Saudi Arabia’s commitment to standing by Syria during this challenging time, offering support for the restoration of peace, security, and prosperity.

This high-level meeting in Damascus marks a significant step in the ongoing diplomatic efforts to support Syria’s recovery and reconstruction. It also underscores the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s role as a key player in fostering stability in the region. With these discussions, both leaders expressed hope for a brighter future for Syria, one where its national institutions are revitalized, its sovereignty is respected, and its people can look toward a peaceful and prosperous future.
