In Makkah, Madinah, 20 monitoring stations assess the quality of the air


The National Center for Environmental Compliance is entrusted with monitoring air quality, pre- and post-Hajj.


The NCEC shares air quality data to public health-related agencies to protect the life of the people and to manage the hajj in a convenient way for the pilgrims.


Air quality measurement stations work 24 hours a day. They monitor the five fundamental air components every five minutes and send daily reports to the Hajj Committee.



According to the statement released in Riyadh on 8th June, 2024, The National Center for Environmental Compliance (NCEC). It disclosed that part of its mandate is checking air quality both before and after the Hajj season (1445 AH). Additionally, the NCEC has stated that it is sharing all of the data regarding air quality with the relevant agencies in order to take the necessary actions to protect public health and provide pilgrims with a convenient Hajj experience. Saad Al-Matrafi, a spokesperson for the National Committee for Environmental Conservation (NCEC), stated that air-quality measurement sites are operational around the clock.


These stations test the five primary air components every five minutes and promptly transmit the results to the central monitoring station. The central monitoring station then provides daily reports to the Hajj Committee. Additionally, he noted that pilgrimage locations carry out immediate environmental monitoring, including air quality. In Makkah and Madinah, there are twenty air-quality monitoring stations, with fifteen fixed and five mobile.
