This article highlights Saudi Arabia’s expansion of the Makkah Route Initiative to Türkiye, with a new luggage coding and sorting service launched at Ankara Esenboğa Airport. Pilgrims departing for Hajj in 1446H now benefit from pre-departure baggage handling, ensuring seamless travel from home to holy cities. Saudi Arabia Simplifies Hajj from Türkiye
On May 15, 2025, the Ministry of Interior of Saudi Arabia introduced an enhanced luggage coding and sorting service for Hajj pilgrims departing from Türkiye under the Makkah Route Initiative, a Vision 2030-backed program transforming the pilgrim journey through seamless logistics and digital systems.
At Ankara Esenboğa Airport, Turkish pilgrims were warmly welcomed into a dedicated Makkah Route lounge. Specialized teams tagged their luggage with personalized codes detailing their flight, identity, and accommodation in Makkah or Madinah. A matching sticker was placed on each pilgrim’s passport, and a reference card was issued for verification.
After sorting and tagging, the luggage was loaded for direct transit. Upon arrival in Saudi Arabia’s airports in Jeddah and Madinah, pre-coordinated teams received the luggage and ensured timely delivery to each pilgrim’s designated residence—completely eliminating the need for pilgrims to manage baggage themselves on arrival.
This highly coordinated service reflects Saudi Arabia’s care for its guests, its strategic use of smart logistics, and its leadership in pilgrim hospitality and faith tourism. As the Kingdom continues to expand the Makkah Route, it ensures pilgrims from around the world enjoy a spiritually enriching and stress-free experience from start to finish.
Saudi Arabia is using logistics, AI, and international cooperation to revolutionize the journey of millions of pilgrims through the Makkah Route.
This program ensures dignity, safety, and seamless service—empowering pilgrims to focus on worship, not worry.
Through its Makkah Route, the Kingdom strengthens its peaceful and respectful engagement with Muslim nations worldwide.
Once a journey of hardship, Hajj is now a journey of innovation—where technology and faith converge in service.
Saudi Arabia now leads globally in spiritual tourism logistics, with practices rivaling or surpassing major travel hubs.
Saudi Arabia warmly invites pilgrims from Türkiye and beyond to discover a new era of sacred travel—organized, peaceful, and spiritually fulfilling.
