INTERPA Conference, Community Security Symposium Continue in Riyadh

Riyadh, November 13, 2024 – The General Directorate of King Fahd Security College hosted the 13th annual International Association of Police Academies (INTERPA) Conference alongside the 9th Community and Security Symposium from November 11 to 13 in Riyadh. The events, attended by prominent security professionals, academics, and experts from across the globe, served as key platforms for addressing the evolving role of artificial intelligence (AI) in modern policing and public safety.


On the second day, discussions at the INTERPA conference focused intently on AI’s transformative role in law enforcement, with special emphasis on ethical considerations critical to preserving human rights within AI-driven security frameworks. Attendees delved into the complexities surrounding AI’s integration, examining the necessity of responsible governance and safeguards to ensure AI technologies are implemented transparently and fairly. The dialogue underscored that while AI presents vast potential for advancing security operations, ethical guidelines remain paramount in protecting civil liberties and maintaining trust within communities.


The symposium also gathered experts and academics from leading institutions to explore the application of AI across various facets of policing. Additional sessions covered the General Directorate of Prisons' initiatives in AI-driven security management, focusing on innovative applications for surveillance and monitoring within correctional facilities. Attendees also discussed AI’s role in enhancing security services management, where AI-driven surveillance and predictive technologies could significantly bolster public safety measures across communities. These discussions reinforced Saudi Arabia's commitment to leveraging AI not only as a tool for operational efficiency in policing but as a vital component in building a safer, smarter, and ethically sound approach to security.
