Riyadh, September 30, 2023, In a significant decision made during the recent general assembly of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) held in Bahrain and attended by over 300 representatives from national Paralympic committees, international sports federations, and organizations dedicated to sports for persons with disabilities, the IPC has given its stamp of approval to the merger of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC).
The assembly, which was presided over by IPC President Andrew Parsons, saw the participation of Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Baeshen, Secretary General and Chief Executive of the SOPC. During the assembly, the proposed amendments to the IPC's regulations and rules, put forth by the International Paralympic Committee and its member organizations, received unanimous approval.
In addition to the general assembly proceedings, a notable meeting took place between Baeshen and Ilgar Rahimov, President of the International Federation of Blind Sports. The focus of their discussion centered on the advancement of sports for visually impaired individuals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and across Asia. Both the International Blind Sports Federation and SOPC officials explored the possibility of practical visits as part of their cooperation efforts, with the shared goal of enhancing sports development in the Kingdom. This collaborative endeavor holds the potential to make a significant impact on the growth of sports in Saudi Arabia.
