Iraqi Prime Minister welcomes Saudi-Iraqi Parliamentary Friendship Committee delegation

Baghdad, September 11, 2023, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, the prime minister of the Republic of Iraq, welcomed the delegation from the Saudi-Iraqi Parliamentary Friendship Committee of the Shura Council. Dr. Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al-Qannas, a member of the Shura Council and the chairman of the committee, was in charge of this delegation. Abdulaziz Al-Shammari, the Saudi ambassador to the Republic of Iraq, attended the conference. The team was warmly welcomed by the prime minister of Al-Sudani, who emphasized the value of fostering closer ties between these two countries. In order to further the already solid bilateral relations, he emphasized the necessity for strong cooperation across numerous areas. Dr. Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al-Qannas, the chairman of the Saudi-Iraqi Parliamentary Friendship Committee, emphasized the significant depth and complexity of relations between the Kingdom and Iraq.

Additionally, the delegation had the honor of meeting Dr. Mohammed Ali Tamim, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning for Iraq. He expressed his sincere gratitude for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's continuous assistance to Iraq in a number of areas, highlighting the importance that the Iraqi government places on this assistance.

Additional meetings were held with Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister and Oil Minister, Hayan Abdul Ghani, when topics of mutual interest were discussed. He stressed how solid Saudi-Iraqi relations were.

Additionally, the delegation met with Ziyad Ali Fadel, the Iraqi minister of electricity, to discuss a variety of similar interests, including those related to power. Both parties emphasized the value of increasing bilateral cooperation in this area.

The delegation also had a fruitful discussion with Ahmed Al-Mubarqa, the Iraqi minister of youth and sports. They discussed issues pertaining to youth and sports, highlighting the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation and collaborative efforts in these fields. Additionally, the significance of improved coordination between sports federations and Olympic committees was emphasized.

The meeting with Haidar Muhammad Makiya, the head of the Iraqi National Investment Commission, was productive for the delegation from the Shura Council. They had discussions about a range of topics and emphasized the critical need to work together to improve collaboration in the area of investment across all sectors.

Abdulaziz Al-Shammari, the Saudi ambassador to the Republic of Iraq, as well as the chairman and other members of the Joint Parliamentary Friendship Committee of the Iraqi House of Representatives, also attended these meetings.
