Jeddah, February 18, 2025 – In a significant step towards enhancing development cooperation, the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Government of Uzbekistan have signed two pivotal agreements aimed at bolstering the education and road infrastructure sectors within the country. The agreements, which are set to pave the way for increased collaboration in these key areas, were formalized on the sidelines of the AlUla Conference for Emerging Market Economies, a prominent gathering of economic leaders and stakeholders focused on sustainable growth and development in emerging markets.
The agreements were signed by Muhammad Al Jasser, the President of the IsDB, and Jamshid Kuchkarov, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan. This partnership marks a significant milestone in the bilateral relationship between Uzbekistan and the IsDB, aligning with both parties' shared commitment to driving sustainable development and fostering long-term economic growth.
The first agreement focuses on the education sector, where the IsDB will collaborate with Uzbekistan to improve the quality of education and increase access to modern learning opportunities. This initiative is designed to address the growing demand for skilled labor and ensure that Uzbekistan's education system is equipped to meet the needs of a rapidly changing global economy. The partnership aims to enhance educational infrastructure, provide capacity-building programs, and support the development of human capital in key sectors.
The second agreement centers on road infrastructure development, a critical area for Uzbekistan's economic growth and regional connectivity. The IsDB’s support will assist the Uzbek government in upgrading and expanding its road networks, facilitating smoother transportation of goods and people across the country. This development is expected to have a profound impact on Uzbekistan’s economic integration within the region, boosting trade, enhancing mobility, and contributing to improved access to markets, education, and healthcare.
Both agreements reflect the IsDB’s ongoing efforts to support its member countries in achieving their sustainable development goals and realizing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. For Uzbekistan, the agreements provide a robust foundation for addressing critical infrastructural and educational challenges while creating new opportunities for social and economic progress.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, President Muhammad Al Jasser emphasized the IsDB’s commitment to supporting Uzbekistan in its development journey, highlighting that these agreements are part of a broader strategy to invest in key sectors that will have a lasting positive impact on the country’s future. Jamshid Kuchkarov also expressed his gratitude for the IsDB’s support, underscoring the importance of these agreements in accelerating Uzbekistan's growth and its integration into the global economy.
The signing of these agreements further cements the IsDB's role as a key partner in Uzbekistan’s development, with both parties looking forward to the successful implementation of these projects, which are expected to bring significant socio-economic benefits to the people of Uzbekistan.
Through these initiatives, the IsDB and Uzbekistan are forging a path towards a more prosperous and sustainable future, driven by strategic investments in education and infrastructure, which will support the country’s long-term goals of economic growth, regional connectivity, and improved quality of life for its citizens.
