IsDB Chairman discusses with Ethiopian Finance Minister at AU Summit

Addis Ababa, February 19, 2024, Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, engaged in discussions with Ahmed Shide, the Ethiopian Minister of Finance, at the Ethiopian Ministry headquarters, on the sidelines of the 37th African Union Summit held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The talks between both parties centered on avenues to bolster developmental cooperation, with a focus on trade financing, economic development initiatives, and scholarship programs. Minister Shide underscored Ethiopia's resilience in overcoming various challenges, highlighting the nation's achievements in economic and social spheres. He extended an invitation to the IsDB to participate in the Horn of Africa Initiative (HoAI), wherein Ethiopia assumes a leadership role.

Meanwhile, Dr. Al Jasser emphasized the enduring historical and strategic ties between Ethiopia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, underscoring the IsDB's support for 44 projects within Ethiopia. He reiterated the IsDB's unwavering commitment to supporting Ethiopia's development efforts and capacity building endeavors in the realm of Islamic finance.

Furthermore, during the meeting, the IsDB Group chairman witnessed the signing of a grant financing agreement with the Ethiopian Yetim Children Care Center (YCCC). The agreement aims to facilitate the expansion of the orphanage's existing facilities, providing additional space for accommodation and vocational training for orphans across Ethiopia.
