Al-Baha, October 11, 2024 – Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif Al Alsheikh, the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance, inaugurated a significant tree-planting initiative in Al-Baha yesterday, marking a key milestone in the region’s efforts to contribute to the Saudi Green Initiative. The project, which aims to plant 50,000 trees around the mosques in Al-Baha, aligns with the Kingdom’s broader environmental strategy to enhance greenery and promote sustainability.
The Saudi Green Initiative, launched under Vision 2030, seeks to combat climate change and desertification by expanding green spaces, increasing vegetation cover, and reducing carbon emissions. Dr. Al Alsheikh emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting that the Ministry of Islamic Affairs plans to expand this tree-planting effort to mosques across the country. The primary goal is to improve the environment around these sacred spaces, while also contributing to the Kingdom’s larger environmental targets.
Dr. Al Alsheikh singled out Al-Baha as a key area for this initiative, highlighting its unique natural beauty and potential to become a prominent global tourist destination. Known for its lush landscapes, cool climate, and mountainous terrain, Al-Baha is considered one of Saudi Arabia’s most picturesque regions. Enhancing its greenery with this tree-planting campaign will not only improve its environmental sustainability but also bolster its appeal to international tourists.
The minister stressed that these efforts will not be limited to Al-Baha but will be part of a nationwide push to create greener, more sustainable surroundings for mosques and their communities. By planting trees around mosques, the ministry is working to promote a cleaner, more vibrant environment that aligns with Islamic values of stewardship and care for the Earth.
