The interview took place after the concluding ceremony on Saturday. The ceremony honored the male and female winners of the 16th National Itqan Competition for Memorizing the Holy Qur'an. The Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call, and Guidance, represented by the Religious Attaché office of the Saudi Embassy in Malaysia, was responsible for organizing the competition in conjunction with the Malaysian Proficiency Foundation for Teaching the Holy Quran. The International Islamic University in Kuala Lumpur hosted the ceremony, where 54 male and female finalists emerged victorious from a field of 1,200 contestants from various states in Malaysia.
Interviewees highly valued Saudi Arabia's efforts to promote the Holy Qur'an, Islam's moderate beliefs and perspectives, and to encourage memorizers, particularly young people of both genders. HRH, the Crown Prince, and King Salman directed these efforts.
Additionally, they used the occasion to thank Minister Sheikh Dr. Abdul Latif Al-Sheikh and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call, and Guidance for hosting this prestigious event in Malaysia.
The interviewees included Dr. Muhammad Asri Zainal Abidin, the Mufti of the State of Perlis; Dr. Nashwan bin Abdo, the founding director of the Itqan Education Foundation and the head of the Department of Qur'an and Sunnah at the International Islamic University in Malaysia; and Abu Hafiz bin Salahuddin, a lecturer in the Department of Qur'anic Studies and Sunnah at the Islamic University of Malaysia.
