Ithra hosts "Searching for Light" exhibition by photographer Peter Sanders

Dhahran, January 21, 2024, The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, also known as Ithra, is positioning itself as the ultimate haven for photography enthusiasts and professionals. Currently, it is hosting its latest exhibition titled "Searching for Light," featuring the extraordinary works of the globally acclaimed photographer, Peter Sanders.

Commencing on January 13 and extending until June 2024, this exhibition unfolds a visual narrative of Sanders' remarkable half-century journey. At the age of 80, the British artist presents 80 captivating images that offer a captivating glimpse into his prolific career.

Stepping into the exhibition halls is akin to entering a realm filled with memories, where Sanders' visual language resonates with the audience's desires and artistic sensibilities. Sanders commenced his photographic odyssey by capturing iconic musicians, but a pivotal moment occurred in 1971 when he embraced Islam. From that point, he embarked on a groundbreaking mission, becoming the first international photographer granted the unique privilege of documenting the rituals of the pilgrimage from the heart of Makkah.

Over the span of four decades, Sanders traversed Arab-Islamic cities and capitals, amassing a staggering collection of over 500,000 images. This exhibition serves as a testament to his profound transformation, transitioning from capturing the essence of international music celebrities to portraying the rituals and sacred locales that embody various dimensions of purity.

"Searching for Light" is not merely a display of photographs; it is a journey through Sanders' lens, unveiling the rich spatial, conceptual, and photographic relationships that he has immortalized over the years. The exhibition stands as a celebration of Sanders' dedication to documenting the history of Islamic civilization worldwide, offering a unique perspective on the interplay between art, culture, and spirituality.
