‘Ithra’ Wins King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism Award

The Architecture and Design Commission organized the first event of the King Salman Charter for Architecture and Urbanism Award in Riyadh, where the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) received the award in the "built projects" category.According to Abdullah Al-Rashid, director of Ithra, the success is a reflection of ongoing efforts to develop a facility with a specific architectural identity that contributes to the enhancement of the Kingdom's cultural life.He noted that the award-winning structure stood out for its architectural design, which was in harmony with the surrounding scenery and made use of modern, environmentally friendly building materials.Al-Rashid claims that environmental concerns informed the design of the structure, which includes the use of technology that produces renewable energy and extremely efficient water management.Additionally, he stated that the award acknowledges Ithra's position as a leading cultural institution, which has contributed to the improvement of the Kingdom's architectural and cultural identity.
