Jazan, March 22, 2025, The Al-Balad Ramadan Market in Jazan, organized by the Jazan Municipality during Ramadan, has revived interest in traditional folk games once popular in the region. The market’s events showcased various old folk games like Carrom, Dominoes, Foosball, and Al-Murqa’a.
These activities have given locals a chance to relive the memories of traditional games that transformed streets and alleys into spaces for running, jumping, and throwing competitions. Over time, these games became an essential part of the region’s social heritage, strengthening community bonds among neighbors and village residents of all ages. They also helped foster courage, chivalry, teamwork, endurance, quick thinking, and sound decision-making.
Historically, the people of Jazan played these games for fun, establishing rules that suited their environment. Over time, they evolved into cultural heritage symbols of a past era. These traditional games were crucial in generating enthusiasm, competition, and joy, relying on physical skill, agility, precision, observation, intelligence, strategic thinking, and quick decision-making.
By engaging in these folk games, children and youth have contributed to preserving this cultural heritage and preventing it from fading away.
